This is again Pirates Cove Marina with the guard rails to the Washington Baum Bridge in the background. In 1986 I was working in Raleigh getting the permits to build this part of the marina. The old wooden 2 lane bridge caught fire when a boat caught fire and drifted into the bridge. A couple of years later NCDOT started construction on the new 4 lane bridge parallel to the old bridge. The old bridge was not badly damaged from the fire. I was an advocate for leaving the old bridge in place and using it as a pedestrian walk and fishing bridge. I have seen this done in Florida. There was a lot of talk about it, and a variety of adjendas, but the contractor got paid to remove it even if he didn't remove it. The prudent thing to do was to remove it. End of discussion. I like subjects with lots of really dark and really light areas in relatively simple shapes.Oil on canvas. 24"X12" (SOLD to a repeat collector)
