I have always liked the little daps of paint that are not where they should be, but somehow belong there. This is an attempt at capturing that painterly pattern of color and brush strokes.Friday, August 28, 2009

Outer Banks Boats (SOLD)
This is again Pirates Cove Marina with the guard rails to the Washington Baum Bridge in the background. In 1986 I was working in Raleigh getting the permits to build this part of the marina. The old wooden 2 lane bridge caught fire when a boat caught fire and drifted into the bridge. A couple of years later NCDOT started construction on the new 4 lane bridge parallel to the old bridge. The old bridge was not badly damaged from the fire. I was an advocate for leaving the old bridge in place and using it as a pedestrian walk and fishing bridge. I have seen this done in Florida. There was a lot of talk about it, and a variety of adjendas, but the contractor got paid to remove it even if he didn't remove it. The prudent thing to do was to remove it. End of discussion. I like subjects with lots of really dark and really light areas in relatively simple shapes.Oil on canvas. 24"X12" (SOLD to a repeat collector)

A Wonderful Outer Banks Probation (SOLD)
I believe that the police departments of Manteo, Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk, Southern Shores, Duck and the National Park Service and the Dare County Sheriff and The North Carolina State Troopers and the Coast Guard would all agree. Its all about safety and protecting you from yourself.Oil on canvas 10"X16"

The Honeymooners (it didn't work out)(SOLD)
I have a couple of easels, this one is my favorite. This is an old plotter stand with a piece of lvl attached and 3 12X12 tiles . It is on rollers. Works great. I am redoing a painting with dabs of orange.
This is my pallette of colors and where Mike Rooney told me to put them. I like it like this. I know just where to go to get mud. I keep a gallon of mineral spirits just to my right.
Sadly, when I started painting him, I realized that he couldn't make it without her. I will scrap him. Hopefully she can go on with some kind of life in a little beach cottage somewhere. I will keep the name as a reminder of their brief time together.Oil on canvas 10"X20" and 9"X20
