John's DriveIn Kitty Hawk

This is John's DriveIn in Kitty Hawk, NC.
This place has been a lunchtime institution during the season on the Outer Banks for probably 30 years. I was more than a little upset when they stopped serving "Tuna Boats"  (fried tuna bits and fries in a paper boat).  Now they serve "Dolphin Boats" or ocassionally "Trout Boats"   I believe there is a bit of the original oil  from 30 years ago still in the fryer.

 Open in Season. No Public Restooms. I am still trying to create the trainwreck effect. I have not tried starting with a completely black canvas except in one mini blue crab. It may be an approach. I do like the fluid feel of this piece.

Avalon Lately (SOLD)

This is a painting of the Avalon Pier in Kill Devil Hills North Carolina in the spring one winter day.

I decided to stay as loose as was comfortable with this and I do like the effects. Certainly less labored.

The house in "Rodanthe Night" Serendipity is being moved. It has been cut away from the pilings and is setting alongside of North Carolina Highway 12 with a moving truck under it.

Faded Lovee(SOLD)

Most people can't make this stuff up. This is "Lovee" the pastel calico that replaced Laverne.  If my neighbor and I were still on speaking terms he would testify. About a year ago my neighbor came to our house. He saw "Lovee" for the first time, however, he knew we already had a calico cat. In astonishment he asked, "..has that cat faded?"

This red boat is docked in Pirates Cove Marina. Probably part of the charter fleet that fishes out of Oregon Inlet. The owner is certainly a Red Skins fan. There are spears on the sides. I did not catch the name of the boat. If I do, I will rename the painting. It seems perhaps my last paintings have been perhaps too centered. fatal error. Thanks for looking.

If a painting is complicated I often do an acrylic underpainting. It is difficult keeping that same loose feel in the final product. Above is proof that mucking in can be just that. Hello to my old good A&E buddy, Doug Dieter, out there in Sacramento, Cal. Found me with a google search. This scene must look familiar to you.
It is very easy to overwork paintings, and if you love to paint, then you must fight that urge also. "But,............... I just got goin' good!"
I don't know if this is finished but it certainly was fun to paint. "Yes, but there is that bit just over the chateau, that certainly could stand another splash." The light at sundown on the beach road is wonderful.

Another scene along North Carolina Highway 12 ( the beachroad) The shutter's on this house have birds painted on them. When I drive by it, I sometimes say aloud, "look, little m's"!
