John's DriveIn Kitty Hawk

This is John's DriveIn in Kitty Hawk, NC.
This place has been a lunchtime institution during the season on the Outer Banks for probably 30 years. I was more than a little upset when they stopped serving "Tuna Boats"  (fried tuna bits and fries in a paper boat).  Now they serve "Dolphin Boats" or ocassionally "Trout Boats"   I believe there is a bit of the original oil  from 30 years ago still in the fryer.

 Open in Season. No Public Restooms. I am still trying to create the trainwreck effect. I have not tried starting with a completely black canvas except in one mini blue crab. It may be an approach. I do like the fluid feel of this piece.

John's DriveIn.

I have enjoyed painting this. John's wife started a tradition of photographing people outside of the drive in and putting the photos on the inside of the windows. She took our picture once and in no time at all the sun bleached it out. I've watched myself fade away.

John's Drive In is a tiny hole in the wall on the beachroad in Kitty Hawk. Great dolphin boats (not flipper) and milkshakes. No public restrooms.

Open in season.
Closed on Wedensday.

John goes fishing on Wedensday.

The Roundhouse

I did this painting in Oct. 2007. One of the houses everyone sees and no one notices on the way to John's Drivein. Headed North looking for a wave or a dolphin boat. Acrylic on Canvas 18"X24" $285.00+S&H
