The Landing

This is what I will call my 800th painting, a scene in Kitty Hawk Landing.
Oil on canvas 16"X20"
My goal is to hit 900 in the spring of 2011 and 1000 sometime late summer. When I started painting in late 2007 my goal was 50. Thanks for looking.

The Christmas Present (SOLD)

My wife and I bought an older home in Kitty Hawk in 1997. Since we have been sporadically remodeling rooms. As a Christmas present  this year I decided to remodel her bathroom. It has been a life changing experience. Among other things, I learned that I don't want to do that kind of work any more.  The work is not quite finished, but far enough along that I can get back to doing what brings me the most joy and some painting, too!

Mr. Bumbles takes a vacation (SOLD)

Bumble bees spend the summer hovering around my garage door and pollinating the flowers in my garden. There is a little hole just the right size in the eve of my garage. I think Mr. Bumble's family live in my attic and I like it.

Derby Day (SOLD)

I'm happy with it.
Detail

First I painted my original 20 minute horse and rider. That was kinda fun. I painted another. Then before I knew it, I had a horse race happening right here on Derby Day. This is a big canvas and I am sort of flying blind, in that I don't have a reference photo to use. I am really liking this.
more to come.

my original  20 minute sketch was indeed in vane. That horse and rider was replaced by another more to scale. I left my original rider just beyond the fence. I am aware that posting works in progress in a logical way that makes sense and is somehow allegorical is an art in itself. What that means is that the one in the middle is first, the one on the bottom is progress and the one on top is finished.

Curious Lambs (SOLD)

I started this painting before I left for the USVI for a week.  It feels good to be back smearing paint on canvas and the excitement of chasing shapes and colors.

Young Turks in Paradise

I have been at my son's wedding in St. John, USVI this week. Cindy and I took a tour bus ride around the island and stopped here for a photo opp. Oddly enough some of the 80 or so in the wedding party were swimming here at Caneel Bay when I snapped the shot. Look closely and you will see a very pale  young turk walking in the shallows. Yikes. I may just move here, but just not today.

Rural Mancave

I was going to call this, "Red Barn on Mud Creek" but in lieu, (who says lieu?) of yesterday's piece, "Serious Mancave" I know of no better name. This is Bob's barn and his chickens. Bob moved south of town years ago and bought a small farm on Mud Creek. Bob knows more about cattle than any man I know. He was a good neighbor and he said he will keep back a few roosters for my next visit to South Dakota.
