Well done, Rick. I'm not sure why, but it tickles me that you call this a still life. I know it is, but still...it applies art to something we normally wouldn't think of artistically!

As a none artist; is a still life something you "set up" to paint the way you want it to look, like the tape measure, or a fruit bowl, or flowers etc? Otherwise its a landscape, correct?

K, being self taught in this stuff, I am a bit of an authority in these matters. A still life is something you set in front of you and paint. If your doing it outside, like some french guy, it would be called plein air, usually done when painting landscapes. One would look pretty foolish standing outside painting a tapemeasure. a landscape is any canvas or painting that is wider than tall. a portrait canvas is the opposite, even if its somebodies face.

And it's manly, too.

kevin, in another vien, I could have called this "The landscape of my tape measure". perfectly acceptable. Believe me, I would know.
