The "Mini-McMansion" (on painting ill advised)(SOLD)

I will leave the work in progress below and above is the finished painting.
I have painted this house before "Design Gone Wild". A tiny ocean front house in Kitty Hawk that has tried in a series of remodels to look like all it's bigger brothers up and down the beach road. "The McMansions" I had been painting on this and it just wasn't working for me. It seemed somehow "unimportant". I thought perhaps it wasn't quite "........crooked enough". I start to add a personal slant and (all day long my counselor's paid just to warn me) "...man,...you're painting ill advised".
Acrylic on canvas in sepia 18"X18"
This painting is sold.

I attended a workshop where the instructor insisted that we start ALL paintings like this, with a monochrome underpainting. Then look at it in a mirror and upsidedown. If it was a good composition every way we looked it, then he would allow us to continue and add color....hmmmm...this just may work....

Debbie,

Does your instructor even know my counselor? and... How did this turn out being about you, anyway? I look in the mirror and I don't see anything at all.

Rick, I love the angles in this one. And by the way, you don't always begin with the monochrome under painting, do you? I've been doing it lately and it helps me to free up when adding the color.

Great painting and it is so "Rick Nilson".

Yep - it worked! Very nice job. The angles make me dizzy, but I sometimes like feeling woozy...

Hi Rick- I love this. I've really missed seeing your OBX cottages. By the way, I've tagged you for an award. Stop by my blog to pick it up. Happy New Year!
