Lovee and Shirley

 
 

This thing is starting to drag on a bit. I may just admit this got the best of me and move on.

So far mostly Lovee.

These are my cats.

 I don't use a printer for reference photos. I have not used a printed photograph to paint from for months.

 I usually paint all over the canvas at the same time. I have never detailed one part of the scene and left the other parts unfinished.

 I had a 24"X24" piece of 1/2" MDF and a little can of black gesso. I used chalk to sketch out the figures. I usually do this with paint.

I also put Shirley's left eye and Lovee's eye at the points of the 1/3-2/3 grid points for a reference. So very methodical of me. So very not like me.

Sheepshead and Spices (SOLD)

I went to the fish market and bought a sheepshead. I asked the fishmonger if he had any with the head still on. I proudly told him I was going to paint it.

 He said, "oh."

That was on Weds. of last week.

 I had to finish this still life without the star of the show. After a while the inside of my nose started to hurt a little bit. I think it was worth the effort. I don't think I am going to be eating it. The dog won' touch it, and I haven't seen the cats all day.

Seeking

I am a lot like this kid in the red shirt. seeking. I paint every day. yes. Every day I slog away at it. I make mistakes and start over and sometimes I am thankful for the opportunity to mix color. I don't post a lot of the works I do these days. If I had painted them last year I would have been satisfied with them, but now it is more and more difficult to be happy with this or that. All that said, I slog away it every day and I am grateful for it.
