Justin's Herd(SOLD)

Justin kept back some of his best holstien hiefers and crossed them with black angus and hereford bulls. The mix is "black baldie" brood cows. Addition of the holstien gave them more milk for the calf and a bigger frame. Good mix for a brood cow, generally. Holstien aren't quite as thrifty as some of the european breeds. Small polled heads typical of angus breeds mean ease of birth. Cross this cow with a purebred red angus bull, add lots of mother's milk and all the corn you can eat. They grow all summer in the sun, and the following spring this baby is usda choice and ready for market.
Acrylic on Canvas 12"X24"
This painting is owned by Justin's son, Trent.

Justin's Pasture

Justin Nilson is another one of my 80+ aged uncles. He used to have a dairy farm. He had all the modern stuff, like plows and corn pickers. One year his plow caught the corner of a very large rock. Soon after that he sold his dairy cows and switched his operation to beef cattle. The plow hasn't put furrows in his pastures in 30 years.

Bedroom Windows

Another scene along North Carolina Highway 12 ( the Beachroad) This guy needs a new roof! There are 2 ways to do corners on cedar shakes, one is with corner boards, and the other is a "weaved corner" More craftsman look. Look for them. You can nap in this room after your swim.
Acrylic on canvas 24"X24" You can buy this painting directly from the artist for $250.00

Clinton's Cow (SOLD)

I couldn't call her 7211. This girl brings back a lot of memories. My uncle Clinton Nilson and his son Craig operate a dairy farm. Clinton is probably 80. He jokes that if life and death are just, then he will die with a teat in his hand. (pronounced "tit)" Dairy farmer humor. Acrylic on canvas. 24"X24" (SOLD)

Don't Look Back (SOLD)

There is a lesson here for all of us. Somehow these animal paintings are beginning to feel like just an induldgence. Who want's some ass hanging on their wall? . I may hang this in my May One Artist Show at The Dare County Arts Council Gallery in Manteo, NC. Unless somebody out there in cyberworlds wants an ass hanging on their wall. Acrylic on Canvas 36"X24".
This painting is entered into the Molly Fearing Art Competition (SOLD)

Welcome to Southern Shores

Consider this more of a very very large study of a Hollywood Juniper and power poles to the beachroad. "Welcome to Southern Shores". Lots of powerpoles and an ocean view. Painting is not like all pleasureable things, in that, it is difficult to know when you are finished. Acrylic on canvas 36"X24" $175.00

Just listen (private collection)

The first animals that I remember drawings were the horses. Who the hell wants to draw some silly chicken. I saw a painting of some old guy riding a mule on the internet yesterday. I bought a book once on drawing horses. I sort of wanted the mule and rider to be listening to some unheard far away noise. Do you hear it. Just Listen. There is a self portrait competition at Glen Eure's Ghost Fleet Gallery. I might enter myself and the cowboy. All edges are painted. Suitable for framing or hang it as is. Acrylic on canvas 24"X16". Highway 12 Revisited #2 (SOLD)

Finally. Another painting. Similar to Highway 12 Revisited. This was another canvas that I first ruined with some left over red paint. Then a complete failure as a large landscape that looked similar to the gin soaked boy. Now this. Another one of them endless days. Swim paralell to the RIP CURRENT
I always try to "ruin" my new starts right off. It gets that part over with. I use the mud that is left over on my pallette. Now I'm not worried about the start. Or how good it is going to be. It's gotta get better. Right? There is some silly french term that has something to do with blonding the canvas. 18"X22" SOLD!

Milepost 10.X (SOLD)

Another sunny day on the beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina. Jack Kerouac called them "long flyless afternoons with Orange Crush". This house has a nice sculpture of a dolphin over the front entry. I made that mistake of asking Cindy what she though of my new work. Yes, I am a glutton for punishment or I mean critiques. "It needs something". I added the car. pure fantacy. Acrylic on canvas. 20"X16" (SOLD!)

Burnin' down the House

The house with the dome burned down the other night. One of my neighbor's told me about it. Again with the capturing the past.

Mile Post 8.8

Back to shiney oils. This is adjacent to Gables. Some day's peanuts, some days shells. Laying in color requires a different approach when using oils v acrylic, and within a 6"X8" format the spaces fill up quickly. Some times a bit to quickly. NFS
